Bromont Canada Cup race report

Bromont, QC; Well things didn't really turn out the way I wished. I ended in 12th place last weekend in Bromont, where was held the first Canada Cup of the season. After riding all winter long I was expecting a better result, but that's how racing goes. Anyway, when I look at my results from the previous years in Bromont, I did pretty much the same, so there is no reason to worry. I'll come back stronger in Tremblant next weekend, that's all.

390 racers This year's course was awesome; it was designed by Antoine Aubert Larose, who did a great job! This was the best course we had in Bromont in years! Even the weather wasn't too bad. It was chilly especially at the top, but at lease it didn't rain like the last couple of years. A total of 390 racers registered for the race, this is most probably a record!!! It's great to see that the sport is doing well.

Luke on his way to a win in Tremblant last year
My race I was doing very well during the first half of the course. I didn't do any mistake and I was able to hit every line I had practiced during Friday's and Saturday's training. However, after the first half I started to feel some arm pump. I decided to sit everywhere I could to avoid having unnecessary weight on my arms. But the problem is that while sitting down I wasn't pushing and/or sprinting as I should, therefore I was losing time. But I had no choice, my arms were so sore; I could barely hold my handlebars. I know I was wasting time, I really felt slow, but I thought it was better than crashing and losing more time or even worse crashing and getting hurt.

My team mates Despite crashing Luke Kitzanuk finished in 9th place which was Giant's best result of the weekend, as Eric Goss took the 20th place. Every one of us was a bit disappointed and we are already anxious to race Tremblant, a course on which we are usually doing pretty well. After Eric's win in 2005, Luke won last year while I was taking the 2nd spot.

Party time

Party time The after race party was fun though, Mathieu Duppelle was fresh from Germany and when this guy is around watch out! You never know how things can turn. Math and Dean had the cool idea to buy fireworks and we had a blast! I don't know if the neighbors appreciated it though... anyway it was 120$ well spent guys! ;)

See you in Tremblant! Dom
